The PRO is the all-stainless Sub-Zero: a 36-inch and a 48-inch model, each offered with a solid or a glass refrigerator door, and each with refrigerator and freezer drawers besides. Stainless fronts, no cabinetmaker’s panel
Sub-Zero’s current design guide lists four PRO models. The PRO3650 is 36 inches wide and the PRO4850 is 48; a G on either number means a glass door on the refrigerator. Older 48-inch units carry 648PRO and 648PROG, and the model key files both under Professional.
A PRO does not take a custom panel. Its doors and drawer fronts are its own steel, so a door line that looks wrong traces to a hinge, the levelling or a drawer slide. The cabinetry still matters: in a standard installation the face frame stands 2 inches proud of the cabinet faces, and in a flush one it sits level with them.
Why the door comes first
A full-height stainless door is heavy, and on a PRO it swings to 135 degrees. That is hard on a hinge. Once a hinge lets its door settle, the gasket meets the frame unevenly, room air gets in, and the compressors run long against it. From the kitchen, that reads as failing cooling.
Levelling is the second suspect. Sub-Zero’s installation guide says to level the unit to the floor, not to the cabinetry, and warns that getting this wrong can upset door closing.
The glass-door models add fog to the list. Sub-Zero accepts some sweating in a humid room, on glass as well as steel, but never water that drips.
The drawers, and the tag
Both widths carry at least one refrigerator drawer on its own temperature setting, apart from the main refrigerator and the freezer. Each drawer front has its own gasket and slides. The model and serial tag is inside the cabinet: left of the freezer drawer on a PRO3650, left of the upper freezer drawer on a PRO4850 or 648PRO.
What we measure first
We open and close every door and drawer, then read the gap lines. We confirm that the front levelling legs bear on the floor and the anti-tip bracket is engaged, as the installation guide requires. Doors adjust at the door and at the cabinet hinges; drawers have height, side and tilt adjustments. Meters come out only once every front sits square and every seal holds.

- Handle and Trim Damage on Stainless Doors We check the handle fixings, and the door behind them, when a PRO handle works loose. A handle yanked loose may have been pulling against a door that sticks.
Questions owners ask
Is a PRO the same as a panel-ready Sub-Zero?
No. A panel-ready Designer unit wears a front made by the cabinetmaker; a PRO keeps its own stainless doors and drawer fronts, set either 2 inches proud of the cabinets or flush with them. Can a PRO door be stopped before it swings all the way open?
