Gasket Wear on a PRO Series Door

Where the wear shows

Each PRO door has its gasket, and so does every refrigerator and freezer drawer. We look first at:

• The corners, where the gasket turns and flexes at every closing.
• One run of a dropped door, pressed flat against the frame.
• The lower run of a drawer gasket, where spills collect.
• Anywhere a harsh cleaner has been used. Sub-Zero’s PRO guide washes the interior with soap, water and baking soda and rules out vinegar and alcohol-based cleaners; we keep the gasket to the same.

The strip test, and what it rules out

A slip of paper is shut in at intervals round each opening and drawn out; where it comes free with no drag, the seal is open. One weak run on one front points at that gasket. The same weak side on several fronts points at levelling or a hinge, which a new gasket would not cure.

Ordering the right gasket

Gaskets are ordered by model and serial number. The tag sits inside the cabinet: left of the freezer drawer on a PRO3650, left of the upper freezer drawer on a PRO4850 or an older 648PRO. Read out over the phone, those numbers let us identify the right part before the visit. The new gasket goes in as one length and is strip-tested again.
