What years of use change

• The gasket. A seal pressed against the frame for years loses its spring. A flattened or hardened stretch still looks whole but no longer fills the gap.
• The hinges. Every swing puts the panel’s weight through the upper and lower hinge. Wear shows as a door that meets the frame early on one side and late on the other.
• The level. The installation guide levels these cabinets to the floor and warns that a unit off level can affect how the door closes. Floors move, and a sound door can end up hanging slightly open.
• The panel. A kitchen refit sometimes hangs a heavier front on an old door. The 700 limits are 40 lb for the 27-inch door and 53 lb for the 36-inch, and a panel past them wears the hinges out ahead of their time.

How we measure it

We close the door gently and look at where the seal meets the frame, then run the paper test at every corner and along every side. Both drawers get the same test. Where the strip comes free easily, we look behind it: a tired stretch of gasket, a door sitting lower at the handle side, a cabinet out of level. Each has its own fix, and the wrong one leaves the weak spot in place.

Is it worth doing on an old cabinet

Gaskets, hinges and levelling are door work. None of it opens the refrigeration, and a door that grips again takes load off a compressor that has been making up for the leak. If the cooling itself has failed as well, that is a separate decision, and we say so in plain terms before anything is ordered.
