Something in the way

The first question is what is stopping it. A package standing proud of the basket, a divider lifted out of its notches, or a drawer taken out for cleaning and set back slightly wrong will each hold the front open. Sub-Zero’s guide explains how a storage drawer goes back: the rear of the drawer onto the hooks on the slide, then the white pegs at the front of the slide into the holes in the drawer front. Miss a peg and the drawer can sit crooked on its slides.

Level, slides, seal

Sub-Zero’s installation guide has the unit levelled to the floor rather than to the cabinets beside it, and notes that a level unit needs fewer door and drawer adjustments. A cabinet leaning forward or back changes how a drawer runs home, so a level goes on the cabinet before anything else is touched.

The same guide limits a custom drawer panel to 15 lb. A heavier front loads the slides beyond that, and the fix is then the panel, which is cabinetmaker’s work.

After that come the slides themselves, run empty and loaded until the point of drag is found. The gasket is last: a drawer can close fully and still not seal, and a torn drawer gasket is one Sub-Zero leaves to a technician.

3. Level, slides and panel weight.
